    Hi dear

B.Tech(Civils) means a degree of Bachelor in Technology in Civil Engineering.

As a civil engineer is concerned with construction of public establishments, bridges, dams etc. that's why they are called civil engineers.

However UPSC is a exam conducting body which conducts an exam called Civil Services Exam.

This Exam is meant for recruitment of officers in administration of different departments. So this exam is called so as these jobs are associated with ''civilians''.

So civil engineering is a branch of engineering and civil services exam is an exam conducted by UPSC.

    Hope i resolved your confusion

    Hi Aspirant,

Friend B. Tech (civil) and UPSC civil service exam both are different profile.

Civil is a trade in B. Tech course like mechanical and electrical. We can also say it civil engineering. The candidates who complete the B. Tech. from civil trade is called the civil engineer.

While Civil Service is an Exam of Union Public Service Commission which conducts for the most reputed post of India. These posts are

    IAS (Indian Administrative Service)

    IPS (Indian Police Service)

    IRS (Indian Revenue Service)

UPSC conducts this exam once in a year in whole India.

It is one of the toughest exams of India. The exam pattern is quite competitive, but still lots of candidates take part in this exam.

The post of IAS is most reputed, charming and have attractive pay scale.

In this post candidates have lots of chance of promotion.

Candidate can apply for this exam through at UPSC website. For more information visit

Re: What is the difference between B.Tech (Civils) and UPSC (Civils)?

B.Tech is a bachelor degree whereas upsc is the exam conducted for recruitment in government jobs. Since you are in 12th, you need to take a bachelor degree and then appear for upsc exams.

Also, if you are interested in civil services; you can graduate in any stream but, for IES you need to have an engineering degree.

    B Tech (Civils) :
Its an engineering branch where you you will be offered B Tech (Bachelor Of Technology) Degree in civil Engineering .
You will get an admission in a college through entrance exams or it can be also on merit as well as doantions .
Minimum qualification required for B Tech Civils is 10+2 with PCM Subjects.

    Whereas UPSC(Civils) :

It stands for Union Public Service Commission . It conducts various examination and after clearing these examination , you will be given a service in the specified area.
    Minimum qualification required is graduate.
You can apply according to your area of intrest in civil services exam .

Since You are in Class 12th , So can prepare well for the entrance test like AIEEE or IIT or State EEE and you can get a very good engineering college and then apply for UPSC examination after your engineering .

In the process , if you succeed then you will be both B.tech(Civils) + UPSC(Civil).

But you need to motivate your self and work hard .

    Good LUCK !!!
