it change from year to year based on difficulty level of question paper and avg marks secured.
to be on safer side, try to score 50% of total marks and then you can get IPS.
based on the rank, IPS officers are alloted a state and till they retire they serve in that state only. They are central govt. employees but serving the state govt

Dear candidate,
This is a case of sheer personal preference.
Usually candidates below the rank of a 100 have the option to choose for the INDIAN ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICE,INDIAN FOREIGN SERVICE & INDIAN POLICE SERVICE RESPECTIVELY.
So securing a good rank in the Civil Service exams would keep you with an option to choose the post of your preference.

The IPS candidates are placed at the centre,and not the state level.

you have to score minimum 400-450. This job is of center as well as state govt. job

* Yes UPSC conducts only one exam for recruitment of both IAS and IPS.

* It depends on one's own preference.

* Candidate has to score maximum rank he/she can score for IPS.

* If a candidate scored 200th rank and still vacancy available for IPS, then it depends on his preference and he may get s

IPS exam is conducted by UPSC. There are some criteria you have to follow for appearing in IPS exam.

This exam is conduct through Civil Service Exam .

Those candidate have completed graduation in any discipline from recognized university are eligible for IPS exam.

But your age should be in between 21-30years for general candidate.

In IPS exam their is provide age relaxation for OBC candidate is 3years and for SC/ST candidate is 5 years.

The maximum attempts for Sc/ST candidate is Unlimited. For OBC candidate it is 7 years and for general candidate it will be 5 years.

Also you must be citizen of India.
