While filling the preferences in Mains form, IRS(IT) happens to find higher place than IRS(Customs) in most of the cases. Since IT officer deals with more number of people, s/he enjoys wider notional powers that the latter. Also, as per work conditions, the workload at present is more on IT officers because of higher number of vacancies in IT deptt. Moreover, customs officer gets more opportunities to travel throughout India. You have to choose as per your taste.
