UPSC conducts the Civil Service exam every year for the recruitment of IAS, IPS or IRS posts.

In this year UPSC will release the notification on 2/2/2013.

Last date of application form will be 4/3/2013 and Preliminary exam will be held on 19/5/2013.


Mains exam will be held on 8/11/2013.

I think you are talking about Civil Services Examination.
Civil Services Examination is conducted by UPSC every year for the recruitment of candidates for the post of IAS, IRS, IPS.

Exam Format of Civil Services Examination
The Civil Services Exam is a paper based test and consists of two successive stages:

1. Preliminary Examination � comprising 2 exams � General Studies and CSAT
2. Civil Services Main Examination (Written and Interview)

CIVIL SERVICES (Preliminary) EXAM., 2013
Date of Notification 02.02.2013
Last Date of Form Filling 04.03.2013
Date OF Exam 19.05.2013

You just have to satisfy the basic eligibility criteria to appear for the Exam.
The basic eligibility criteria for Civil Services Exam are as follows:
Educational Qualification
The candidate must hold any degree in any discipline from any recognized university
Final year degree students are also eligible
Degree obtained by distance education/open university is also eligible if the university is a recognized university

Age limit
General 21-30 yrs
SC/ST 21-35 yrs
OBC 21-33 yrs
PH 21-40 yrs

Number of attempts permitted
General 4
OBC 7
PH 7
SC/ST No Limit

Nationality should be Indian.

Date of notification for i.a.s preliminary exam:02/02/2013
last receipt date of application 4th march,2013
exam.date 19th may 2013.

Having a graduate degree with the age 21 years to 30 years can write i.a.s exam.

Gen,candidate to clear within 4 attempts.
Obc to clear within 7 attempts.
S/c s/t has no limit.

The schedule of UPSC Civil Service Exam is below :

DATE OF NOTIFICATION : 2-2-2013

Last DATE OF RECEIPT OF APPLICATION : 4-3-2013

PRELIMINARY EXAM : 19-5-2013

The eligibility criteria for the exam is below :

=> one must be an indian citizen
=> one should complete their graduation in any field from any recognized university .
or
=> A final year student also eligible for the exam but before the main exam one have to complete the graduation .

=> AGE LIMIT :
21-30 for general cast
21-33 for obc cast
21-35 fro sc/st cast
21-35 for ex-serviceman
21-40 for physically handicapped

=> Maximum 4 attempts are eligible for general cast , 7 for obc cast and no limit for sc/st cast .

So just start the preparation for the exam and give it .

• Preliminary is the first step/exam in the civil services examination.
• This is the objective based exam which has the multiple choice options.
• After the completion of preliminary exam, you will be required to appear in main Exam.

Till now UPSC has not announced the expected schedule of Civil Services Examination 2013.
The schedule of CSE-2013 should be available on the UPSC official website (http://www.upsc.gov.in/)
by the end of this year 2013.
You should start preparing for the exam from now only according to present examination
scheme and syllabus. If any changes are made in the examination scheme or syllabus,
it will be notified through circulars in newspapers and the website.

The present Civil Services Examination is conducted in two stages.
The first stage is called Civil Services Preliminary Examination or Civil Services Aptitude Test.
This questions in CSAT are asked from
General studies (History, Geography, Politics, Economics and social development, General Science)
English and Mathematical Aptitude etc.

The second stage of Civil Services Examination comprises of Main Exam and Interview.
If you qualify Preliminary exam then only you can appear Main exam and on the basis
of Main exam score you could be called for Personal Interview.
The final merit list is prepared by adding the score of Main Exam and Personal Interview.

The Main examination has these papers.
1. Indian Language Qualifying Paper (300 marks)
2. English Qualifying Paper (300 marks)
3. General Essay type paper (200 marks)
4. General Studies (Paper-I & II 300 marks each)
5. Optional subject-I(Paper-I & II 300 marks each)
6. Optional subject-II(Paper-I&II 300 marks each)
