Yes absolutely you can apply for IPS Exam. You have to apply for Civil Services Examination.
Civil Services Examination is conducted by UPSC every year for the recruitment of candidates for the post of IAS, IRS, IPS.

Exam Format of Civil Services Examination
The Civil Services Exam is a paper based test and consists of two successive stages:

1. Preliminary Examination� comprising 2 exams � General Studies and CSAT
2. Civil Services Main Examination (Written and Interview)

The basic eligibility criteria for Civil Services Exam are as follows:

SC/ST 21-35 yrs
OBC 21-33 yrs
PH 21-40 yrs

To Become an IPS Officer you would crack Civil Service Exam which is conducted by UPSC every year.

Your age should be between 21-30 years
Age relaxation for OBC 3 years and SC/ST 5 years

You must be Graduate any stream from any recognized university.


You must be physically and medically fit.

IPS recruitment is done through civil services exam conducted by UPSC.

Required Qualification to appear for Civil Services Exam

-You should have passed Graduation degree in any specialization from recognized Institute.
-You are for civil service exam while in graduation final year.
-UPSC Civil service exam has no restriction on graduation percentage.
-Your Age should be within the limit of 21 to 23 years.
-You must be a citizen of India.

Physical standard required are:

1. The candidate must be in good physical and mental health and free from any disease
2. The minimum acceptable height for male candidates is 157.5 cms. For Women candidates minimum acceptable height is 152 cms.
3. There should be no disease of bones and joints of the body.
4. The hearing should be normal
5. A male candidate should be able to read 6/6 in a distant vision chart with each eye with or without glasses. For women candidates the minimum acceptable visual acuity are Distant Vision (corrected) better eye 6/6, worse 6/18.
6. A candidate should be able to recognize red and green colors

Absolutely YES..An Art student can apply for IPS i.e. Indian Police Service Exam. To appear in IPS Exam you need to pass Graduation degree course in any stream. There is no special or Separate exam for IPS. To become an IPS you have to appear in Civil Service Exam conducted by UPSC once in a year. An eligibility criterion is the same for all the students even from different streams. U just need to be a graduate. Age limit is 21 to 30 in general category, 21 to 33 in obc, and 21 to 35 in sc/st.

Its best recommended for an arts student to go for the Civil Services exams conducted by the UPSC.
Its this Civil Service exams which offer the post of an IPS officer.
Now as u are an arts student u won't face much difficulty even in the preliminary exams where the subject is basically general studies.Also the arts subjects such as the POLITICAL SCIENCE,PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION,HISTORY and GEOGRAPHY are very scoring.
So you won't face difficulties of any kind.

Yes, being an ARTS student u can write for ips exam..There are no special requirements for appearing for the IPS exam as it is part of the Civil Services examination. So if you fulfill the criteria for civil services exams you, by default, qualify for IPS exams as well. You can get all the details regarding the exam on the upsc website

Ofcourse you can apply but not now. you can apply when you you will be in your final year or you have completed your graduation.
To become an IPS officer you have to apply for civil service exam that is conducted by the upsc every year. there will be two exams. pre and mains, if u pass the pre exam then u will be eligible for mains exam.
