Civil Service Exam comprises of 3 stages.

    --Preliminary Exam
    --Main Exam
    --Interview

    Exam Pattern Of Main Exam:-

    List Of Optional Papers :-

There are no subjects in Optional papers from IT stream.
So, I suggest you to take Indian History, Geography like papers .
Because these papers will give you more marks.
These papers will help you both in prelims & mains exam for preparation.
Besides these papers you can also choose Psychology & Sociology papers as these papers are interesting & give you more marks.

IN IES EXAM YOU HAVE TO CHOOSE CATEGORY FOR THE EXAMINATION THERE ARE FOUR CATEGORIES IN IES EXAM.

    1. Civil Engineering

    2. Mechanical Engineering

    3. Electrical Engineering

    4. Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering

So, You can see there is no category for IT student. So you can fill up the form of IAS/IPS examination.

    Hello Friend,

Being a IT student myself and an aspirant of civil services examination I can tell you that there are no specific subjects from IT stream. Now this throws a tricky question to us i.e. Which subjects to choose??

Now as you'll require to study a lot of history and geography for preparation of prelims,I'll suggest atleast choose one subject from history or geography, some people also say it's better to choose Public administration but i won't recommend that.

What I strongly feel is that to crack any examination you have to trust your strengths and thats why for second examination I'll sat chooe the subject you are/were good at like Maths.Statistics,Physics etc.

    Best of Luck

    HELLO,

IF YOU ARE B.TECH IT STUDENT THEN YOU CAN FILL UP THE FORM OF IES OR IAS/IPS.

IN IES EXAM YOU HAVE TO CHOOSE CATEGORY FOR THE EXAMINATION THERE ARE FOUR CATEGORIES IN IES EXAM.

    1. Civil Engineering

    2. Mechanical Engineering

    3. Electrical Engineering

    4. Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering

So, You can see there is no category for IT student. So you can fill up the form of IAS/IPS examination.

If you want to take commerce in UPSC Mains exam then you can take.

But I suggest you to take Arts Subjects like History, Political Science, Sociology, Psychology, Philosophy etc. If you have good writing skills then you can absolutely Crack the Exam.

After that you have to go for the Question Pattern of Exam so you should download and print Previous Years Question Papers from www.upsc.gov.in

Model Test Papers and Sample Papers are most important for Practice.

    Wish you all the best,
