Dear Student, -Firstly,I would like to inform you that its not the MLAs that are selected by the President.The President selects the MPs belonging to the Rajya Sabha. -There are 250 members to be elected in the Rajya Sabha.Out of these,12 members are to be elected by the President.The criteria of selection are person who have been belonging to the fields of Art,Literature,Science,and now evEn Sports,and have shown signs of social service. -Sachin Tendulkar has been the latest inclusion in the Rajya Sabha. -The 1/3 rd members of Rajya Sabha retire every second year.The term of the members is 6 years.They are not subject to complete dissolution. -The MLAs on the other hand are elected through State Elections.No candidate are selected by the President. Out of these 238 members will be from different States and Union Territories while the remaining 12 members are nominated by President. Each member is elected for six years. Recently Big Names Sachin Tendulkar and Actress Rekha were Nominated and selected.
