Merchant navy is a field this related to the management , transport and shipping of industrial goods, couriers, import and export of material between two countries through the water ways and naval shippings.


There are a number of courses in merchant navy.

Career in merchant navy can be pursued either as an officer or a rating in mainly two specialised fields:

1. Marine engineering
2. Nautical deck


Eligibility for Merchant Navy

-You must an Unmarried male.


-Your age should not be more than 20 years.

-You must have completed your 12th from a recognized Education Board.

-You must have completed your 12th with PCM(Physics,Chemistry,Mathematics)

Yes you can go for merchant navy after passing of your 12th

It is 4 years course conducted by plenty of institution overall india

You have to qualify entrance test and then they will join you as a engineer

This engineering is known as marine engineering

This is 4 years regular course ..after completion of course

The notifications will be released by Indian navy

So you can apply and go for merchant navy

This is the entire process of joining in merchant navy

yes, you can join Merchant Navy after 12th. For that you have to give Entrance test of various Institutes which run Merchant Navy Program which gives training to candidates for Merchant Navy. You can Join Chanakya Academy For Merchant Navy.

Sorry to say this you are not eligible for navy because the commerce students are not eligible for Indian navy.

Here iam providing you the all details navy.

To join in navy you need to apply NDA(National Defence Academy) exam, this exam is conducted by the UPSC(Union Public Services Commission) twice in a year.

Eligibility criteria:

-->Candidate should be complete 12th standard with physics, chemistry and mathematics from a recognised state board of india.

Percentage is not required for this exam.

Only unmarried male candidates are eligible.

Candidate should be a citizen of india.

Candidate must be physically fit.

Age limits is 16.5years to 19 years.


Selection procedure:

Written test,
SSB interview,
Medical test.

If you having Physics / Maths / Chemistry Subjects in 12th standard or Equivalent course then, your eligible to apply for Merchant Navy ,

You should qualified in 12th standard (or) Equivalent Examination with Minimum 60% percentage of marks from recognized University

After completing 12th standard ,You may apply for Merchant Navy in one of the Department ,

Phsyical Standards :-

You should be Physically as well as medically fit . Your Minimum height should be 157cms for men and 152 cms for women with correlated weight .
You should not be color blind.

To join the merchant navy you need to appear in the various entrance exams conducted by the respective institution . to get into the government colleges like INDIAN MARITIME UNIVERSITY you need to appear for JEE entrance exams . other than that many private colleges are offering the same course like marine engineer , architect , etc. so to get into a good institution for your career you need good marks in the entrance exams conducted by them .

you can join merchant navy by givening the entrance examination of various institutes which are run by many merchant-navy organisation for trainig the candiates for merchant navy.

intially you have to pay fees to these institutes some colleges will also offers scholarship for bright students

such students are like chanakya acdemy for merchant navy in various parts of country.

check local newspaper for said advertisement.
