but my friend according to my opinion you should not take Sanskrit as your optional

subject because it is not a suitable subject for a b.tech stuident because you have not proper knowledge of the subject.

so you should take mathematics and physics as your main subject.

Hi Aspirant,

Sorry friend you can not choose the Sanskrit and English as optional subject.

UPSC dont include these subjects in the list of mains optional subject.

There is also a general paper of English in prelims exam. Thats why UPSC dont include this subject in the optional list.

Optional subjects
Agriculture
Animal husbandry & vetinary science
Anthropology
Botany
Chemistry
Civil engineering
Commerce and accountancy
Economics
Geography
Indian History
Law
Management
Mathematics
Mechanical engineering
Medical science
Philosophy
Physics
Political science & international relations
Psychology
Sociology
Statistics
Zoology
These all are valid subject to choose for UPSC mains exam.

You can choose any two subjects for mains exam.

Friend in my suggestion you should choose the subject related to your b. Tech or as per your interest means to say that you are confident in the subject.

Optional subject play the key roles in the preparation of UPSC exam.

So take any decision very carefully.

My friend English is one of the compulsory subject so that you have to choose other optional subject .

Sanskrit is one of the language mentioned in constitution of india .

So that you can select sanskrit as language subject .

For the other two optional subjects you have to select from the below list .
Agriculture
Management
Animal Husbandry & Vetinary Science
Mathematics
Anthropology
Mechanical Engineering
Botany
Medical Science
Chemistry
Philosophy
Civil Engineering
Physics
Commerce & Accountancy
Political Science & International Relations
Economics
Psychology
Electrical Engineering
Public Administration
Geography
Sociology
Geology
Statistics
Indian History
Law
Zoology

You have to select any two from the above subjects .

You can choose the subject based on your interest , education etc .

You also see the last year optional subject papers so that you will know the paper pattern and type of questions .

So be careful while choosing the subject , after chosen just start the preparation for the exam .

Also you should fulfill the criteria for the exam otherwise you will not allowed for the exam .

to become an IAS officer you have to apply for
the upsc civil services examination conducted every year by upsc.

first of all,
you are fully eligible to apply for the upsc civil services examination being B.tech student.

the civil services exam is conducted in two stages .

PRELIMINARY EXAMINATION
MAINS EXAMINATION

for the mains examination the aspirants can choose any subject of
their choice from the list of subjects allowed by upsc.

the list of subject you can choose are as follows
Agriculture, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science,
Anthropology, Botany, Chemistry, Civil Engineering,
Commerce and Accountancy, Economics,
Electrical Engineering, Geography,
Geology, History, Law, Management,
Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering,
Medical Science, Philosophy, Physics,
Political Science and International Relations,
Psychology, Public Administration, Sociology,
Statistics, Zoology,
Literature of one of the following languages:
Arabic, Assamese, Bodo, Bengali, Chinese,
Dogri, English, French, German, Gujarati,
Hindi, Kannada, Kashmiri, Konkani, Maithili,
Malayalam, Manipur, Marathi, Nepali, Oriya,
Pali, Persian, Punjabi, Russian, Sanskrit,
Santali, Sindhi, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu.

so if you are interested to take up Sanskrit or English as your optional subject for the the mains examination
you can absolutely do so without any restriction.
but be sure about your decision so that you don't have to regret afterwards.
