According to new rules of UPSC for Civil Services General Studies papers are given more weightage than optional subject. And now you have to choose only one optional subject from the list of optional subjects. And from now you can only select Language if you have done graduation in same language as your main subject.

For the post of IAS UPSC Conduct Civil Services Exam. You can apply for Civil Services exam after or while appearing in final year of your graduation.

As you said you are currently of 17 years. So you have 4 years left because you can't apply for the exam before 21 years. So keep preparing for Civil Services Exam.

Civil Services exam constitutes three parts:
1. CSAT(Prelims)
2. Mains
3. Interview

Pattern For Prelims Exam:

General Studies Paper - I 200 Marks
General Studies Paper - II 200 Marks

Pattern For Mains Exam:

The written examination will consist of the following papers:
Paper-I

Section 1 Essay 200 Marks

Section 2 English Comprehension 100 Marks
& English Pr�cis
(Of Matriculation/ Xth standard
level)

Paper-II

General Studies�I 250Marks
(Indian Heritage and Culture,
History and Geography of the World
and Society)

Paper-III

General Studies �II 250 Marks
(Governance, Constitution,
Polity, Social Justice and
International relations)

Paper-IV

General Studies �III 250 Marks
(Technology, Economic Development,
Bio-diversity, Environment, Security
and Disaster Management)

Paper-V

General Studies �IV 250 Marks
(Ethics, Integrity and Aptitude)

Paper-VI

Optional Subject � Paper 1 250 Marks

Paper-VII

Optional Subject � Paper 2 250 Marks


Sub Total (Written test) 1800 Marks

Personality Test 275 Marks.

Grand Total 2075 Marks




Eligibility Criteria For Civil Services:

>>you must have completed or appearing in final year of graduation.


>>your age must be within 21 years to 30 years on 1 August of the year of exam. there is relaxation in upper age limit up to 3 years for OBC and 5 years for SC/ST candidates.


Limit Number Of Attempts:


>>General: 4 attempts
>>OBC: 7 attempts
>>SC/ST: No Limit

HI

IAS post you had to crack the civil service exam conduct by upsc

for preliminary test=concentrate on civics,geography,history,sociology ,general science,basic maths problems (10th level) and english language comprehension skills(10th level)

preliminary test=

-part 1=contains 200 marks
-part 2=contains 200 marks

each part exam durations is 2 hrs.

**if the candidate clear the preliminary test,then only allowed to appear for civil service exam

-changes in the syllabus and scheme for main exam=

-the main exam comprises of 7 papers in all.
-now the students have to appear for just one optional subjects with 2 papers of 250 marks each
-I)paper 1 contains 2 sections
a)section 1=has essay of 200 marks
b)section 2=have english comprehension and precis of 100 marks.

general studies will have 4 papers of 250 marks each
-II)PAPER 2= general studies (indian heritage and culture,history and geography of the world and society


-III)paper 3=general studies of governance,constitution,polity,social justice,international relation

-III)paper 4=general studies of technology,economic development,biodiversity,environment,security,disa ster management

-IV)paper 5=general studies of ethics,integrity and aptitude.

-V)Paper 6 and paper 7=optional subjects (250 marks each)

-personality test=275 marks.


***CHOOSE THE SUBJECT WHICH YOU HAD ALREADY STUDIED IN YOUR GRADUATION,SO YOU WILL FEEL QUITE EASY TO PREPARE FOR THE EXAM

New pattern of UPSC allow you to select only one optional paper and it checks your aptitude towards civil services.
Before selecting optional you keep in mind
1)First go through 25 optionals given by UPSC
2)Select which optionals given by UPSC interests you.
3)You love studying that paper.
4)You can solve question based on those paper you should natural willingness to study that paper
5)Otherwise go through that paper which has more study materials available in market
Never select your optionals based on following
1)Your friend has selected it
2)Your coaching institutes saying it is more scoring
