    Hi Aspirant

Well it will depend all on you and your passion

About the IES job and i don't want to mislead you

As if you really want to prepare for the exam then you have to quit the job

Because for the exam you need at least 15 hours of daily preparation

Can you manage all these with job

If yes then you can do both things at the same time

And as you asked how much time will take for the preparation

And the answer is again it will depend on you

And your concentration level if you will concentrate full on the exam

Then you will clear the exam no doubt

So working hard is the only way to get success in the exam

And do daily practice and practice

Because practice makes a man perfect

    Best of luck

For a serious candidate it needs six to twelve months for Indian Engineering Service Examination. It is not advisable to quit your present job if you have family burden or you are in the age of threshold. It's totaly depends on you. Remember One thing :- "When there is a will, there is a way."

It is not advisable to "QUIT A NICE JOB" ,as you owned mention that you are AVERAGE student, as an average candidate it is not surety that you will compete exammination comfortably. you need to enchance your basic concept, study hard as this examination of class "A" type which demands sound level knowledge both of technical field or of GENERAL ABILITY which cann't be prepare by average student by overnight.

If you unable to compete in merit level, then you lost both YOUR TIME & YOUR NICE JOB.

But if you had confidence in you that you will able to get this job later o
n, the there is no harm to take chances FOR IES to prepare exclusive ,if not try to change your JOB PROFILE in which you got ample time to study besides the work.

    good luck.

it will take 1yr diligent preparation is enough for those who r good in b-tech. for those who r likely fresh (not good in b-tech) it may take 2-3 yrs. start your preparation with full of energy. all the best.
