yes a eee(electrical engineering) student can write for IRS exam, the exam is civil services examination and crack the exam then you can opt for irs. through this exam various officers are recruited such as ias,ips,irs,etc. an engineering background student can tackle it, for more details visit upsc.gov.in

yes my friend people who belong from any engineering branches or any o0ther graduation course are eligible of giving the exam of the upsc civil services.
And yes revenue services has nothing to do with the engineering services. But once you are selected in the exam then you will be provided with a training of 2 years, in which you will be completely trained about your work and all the other things that you need to follow.

IRS - Indian Revenue Service is a particular post and comes under revenue department of India and there is a common recruitment process for various posts as IFS, IAS, IPS, IRS etc. in their departments and this recruitment process is called Indian Civil Service Examination that is administrated by UPSC - Union Public Service Commission Board and UPSC board conduct this examination every year in two different sections that are - Preliminary Examination and Mains Examination and all those candidates who qualifies both of these stages called for personality test for final selection and if your score of mains examination and interview process comes under the selection criteria then you will get the job but your final selection for IRS or IAS post will be finalized on the basis of your rank secured in the examination and personality test so you have to work hard and smart by following a good strategy to crack examination and interview process and become an IRS Officer.

To apply for this examination, you should have passed bachelor's degree in any subject from a recognized university, those candidates who are pursuing final year of bachelor's degree or appearing for final year/semester examination or awaited for final year result may also apply for this examination but only for prelims

You must not have attained the age of 30 years to apply for this exam and minimum age required is 21 years. If you belongs to any one of the SC or ST or OBC or PWD then you may claim for upper age relaxation after completing 30 years of age that will be provided to you as per government standards that is 5 years for SC/ST, 3 years for OBC, 10 years for PWD and 5 years for Ex-Servicemen category candidates

If you have completed Electrical Engineering bachelor's degree then you may apply for this examination but this year, UPSC board has conducted prelims exam so you should wait for next year's civil service examination and then apply but I would like to advise you that you should not waste a single second of your time if you seriously wants to become an IRS Officer because it requires hardcore preparation that can only be done by dedication and purity in hard work so you can start your preparation for this examination by following official details and syllabus that is mentioned in attached document
