Using how many chances should we clear UPSC prelims/Mains exam? How many subjects can we opt as optional for Prelims and Mains exam? I am referring to a book named Civil Services (IAS) general studies by Deepa Publications. Is it useful?

Sir, I'm studying in III semester B.E. in Civil. I wish to do I.A.S. Now I'm referring a book called CIVIL SERVICES(IAS) GENERAL STUDIES by Deepa publications. But i don't know about the some of imp things those are; In how many chances do we have to get pass the prelims or main. How many subjects do we have to choice in the prelims or main exams. Is it helpful to study these type of books that i have purchased. Is there possibility to become an IAS officer without any tutorials?
If any imp things you know then please inform me along my questions sir. This is my aim and my parents wish to see me in that position, so please help me sir. I believe that surely You will guide me. Please, please, please.........
