Upsc conduct exam have three steps :- preliminary exam mains exam personal interview in preliminary exam has two papers :- 1. General study 2. Optional subject each paper is 200 marks .if you passed in this exam then you coming on mains exam .
Re: How many subjects are there for UPSC preliminary exam? dear friend, UPSC has changed the pattern of Civil Services Prelims exam. Now it is also called CSAT(Civil Services Aptitude Test). In this there is no optional subject. CSAT has two papers: Paper-I and Paper-II. both are of 200 marks each. The paper is fully objective type. Paper-I comes from General Awareness. Paper-II comes from Logical and reasoning questions. Good Luck........

These question papers i.e. both question papers are objective type question papers. You have to pass these papers for appearing in Mains exam. These question papers is related to general studies in which you will asked general knowledge, English Comprehension and some logic questions in the basis of 10th examination syllabus.
