    Yes you can clear IAS exam without any coaching but for that you have to be very hardworking and disciplined.

    You have to follow a strict schedule to crack IAS exams. The syllabus of IAS exams is very vast and you have to study period of hours in order to clear it.

    In coaching classes they make to disciplined and you attend classes of every subjects according to the time table.

    If you can make your own time table at home and follow the time table and study according to it. Then you will be on a right path.

    In case of optional subject i would suggest you to choose that subject in which you have interest. Because you have to study a lot hence without interest in a particular subject yiu can't study that subject.

    So if you are confident with zoology then choose that subject.

    For GK you can refer books like Tata McGraww Hills General Studies and Manorama year Book.

    GK needs a lot of time. So you must give GK proper time every day then only you will improve your GK.

    Yes, dear you can crack this examination without any coaching.

    For this you would be work hard.
    You would be spent more and more time at study.
    You should read newspaper daily for GK.
    You should read magazine.
    You should solved previous question paper, which is available on
    www.upsc.gov.in
    You should read helping books, which is available on www.flipkart.com OR www.onestopics.com/books
    You should read NCERT Books.

    Hello,
    actually i am graduate from B.Sc biotechnology and now want to try for IAS but i can't afford coaching at this time because fee is so high.
    so is it possible to clear IAS without coaching if yes ,then please give me an idea how to start preparation and from where.
    which study material should i refeer?
    what is the good source of GK ?as i am very weak in this arena.
    And one more thing, which optional subject should i choose as i am confident with zoology but i am applying M.Sc in chemistry .
