And Yes the syllabus of Engineering Services is related to GATE syllabus since both the exams are conducted to test your knowledge of your respective field whichever it may be.

Yeah.. approximately both IES and GATE have same syllabus.
But ofcourse IES is more tougher than GATE examination.
IES Examination is Conducted for Four Branches of Engineering including Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics and Communication but, GATE Examination is Conducted for Every Branch of Engineering.
In IES Examination, You Have to give Tests of total 1000 Marks including 1 paper of General Ability (2 Hours), 2 Objective papers(2 Hours for each paper) and 2 Conventional Papers (3 Hours for each paper) But in GATE Examination, You have to give Test of a Single Paper consists 60 Questions of 100 Marks for Duration of 3 Hours.
The IES Exam paper consists General and Technical paper Both But, GATE Exam Paper Consists only Technical Paper.
