Yes, English and Economics is a valid combination. You can take these as your options. Please be sure that do not take any subject because you are good at it. What you know of the subject may totally be different from what is required by this exam. So, please see the syllabus and previous year questions of any subject that you choose before taking a final decision.

Yes, of course, you can choose the English and Economics as your optional subjects. But it will be better for you, if you have the adequate knowledge on it. Because at the time of preparing for the Main examination, you should feel comfortable, if you choose your parental subjects.
