Dear Aspirant
As far as I think IES (Indina Engineering Service)is more tough than GATE.It is conducted By UPSC for selection of engineers in Group A servcies.See if you see the examination pattern than in GATE examination most of the questions are objective type but in IES there is separate exam of objective and conventional.Means once you have to give first objective examination and then you have to appear for subjective papers. In IES there is not so much of surprises but it will check your grasp over subject knowledge and if you dont have then you cannot qualify because almost equal weightage is given to all the portion of syllabus in IES .But one thing is relief that in IES you do not have to prepare your mathematics paper that you will studied till fourth semester
It infacts check your knowledge and Englsih skills till class tenth by taking separate objective examinationhwich is infcat the first paper of engineering service exam.Don't be afraid of this paper as basic level general knowledge questions will be asked relating to history ,geography and currents events of national and international importance. But you have to be definetely good in your branch paper.
All the best
Dear friend
IES syllabus is vast compared to gate syllabus. But most of the portions in gate syllabus is also in IES.
If you consider way of preparation and questions, then Gate and IES are totally different.
Gate: You have to know the concept.no byhearting
No repetitive questions.
You dont have to study the total subject.Questions will be from basics. But dont expect direct questions.Questions will be tricky.
Only objective questions
IES:You have to study each and every portion of a subject.
You will get many repetitive and direct questions.
There are objective as well as conventional papers.
