to join in indian police service(IPS) YOU NEED to crack the entrance exam conducts by union public service commission .the entrance exam is "CIVIL SERVICE EXAM"

to be eligible for CIVIL SERVICE EXAM,you need to fit for the conditions listed below=

-age=21-30 years with relaxation age limit for SC/ST/OBC/phc/ex-service men etc
-medically fit and fine
-must be indian
-must have graduation passed certificate or must have completed bachelor degree or if are in final year.

2)main exam
3)interview

after that would be send to work for the applied post

Civil Services Examination is conducted by UPSC every year for the recruitment of candidates for the post of IAS, IRS, IPS.

The Civil Services Exam is a paper based test and consists of two successive stages:

1. Preliminary Examination � comprising 2 exams � General Studies and CSAT

Dear IPS - Indian Police Service Exams under the civil services but this exam is conducted differently by the UPSC board means you would be selected through IPS exam not through IAS so but the exam would be conducted at the same day and the dates are following for IPS - Indian Police Service Exams :

Date for UPSC IPS Prelims exam - 19-05-2013

Dear for you kind information about the examination pattern of this exam, that IPS exam pattern is also same as IAS exam means the examination pattern of IPS is following :

Preliminary exam : Two papers would be conducted in objective type pattern and each paper contains 200 marks and you will have to qualify each paper then you would be eligible for next step.

Mains Exam : If you qualify the prelims then you will have to qualify various 9 papers which would be conducted in conventional type pattern in the mains exam and qualifying in each and every paper is necessary to reach to the next step and in the mains exam you will have to select any two subjects from the following list for your mains exam :

Each paper contains 300 marks but the essay paper contains 200 marks so that the total marks for mains exam are 2000 and your prelims marks are not added in the mains marks but your mains marks are everything for your selection

Interview Process : If you qualify the prelims and mains then you would have to face interview process and it has 300 marks separate and after this you may become the IPS Officer

Physical Standards : In IPS exam you will have to qualify the physical and medical standards which are following as :

Hight Male - 165 cm and 160 cm for ST category candidates

Hight Female - 150 cm and 145 cm for ST category candidates

Chest Male - 84 cm and 5 cm expansion

Chest Female - 79 cm and 5 cm expansion

Eye Sight - For Good Eye the near vision should be - 6/6 or 6/9 and for worst eye it should be - 6/12 or 6/9 and J1 Distant vision for good and J2 distant vision for worst eye

Ear - Normal Listening ear cavity with frequency of 1000 - 4000 and hearing impairment should not be more than 30 decibels

Nasal - Candidate should not stammer while speaking/talking/conversing

Female - Ladies should not be pregnant during the medical and physical standards test

To become an IPS officer you need to crack the CSAT (Civil Services) exam. this exam is conducted by UPSC in every year.

For appearing CSAT exam you must be eligible and the eligibility criteria is
Eligibility criteria
candidate should be graduate from recognized university in any stream. marks or percentage doesn't matter.
final year candidate can also eligible for this exam
Age Limit
General 21 to 30
OBC 21 to 33
SC/ST 21 to 35

First of all to become an IPS officer you have to apply for Civil Services Exam that is conducted by UPSC every year. The Exam is conducted for graduates.


to appear in Civil Services exam you have to complete graduation
in any discipline from recognized college or university with any percentage.





Civil Services exam constitutes three parts:
1. CSAT
2. Mains
3. Interview


for appearing in exam you have to fulfill some other requirement like:

>>you must have completed or appearing in final year of graduation.
