This exam is organized by the Union Public Service Commission for the recruitment of candidates at the post of IAS, IPS or IRS.
This exam is conducted once in a year at national level.

Notification date: 2/2/2013
Last date of application form: 4/3/2013
Civil service prelims exam: 19/5/2013
The notification for the UPSC civil service exam will be updated at UPSC official website as well as employment news paper soon.
So regularly visit UPSC official website http://upsc.gov.in
You can apply for the Civil Service exam in two modes
Offline application form
You can purchase application form from nearest post office and fill all the basic details and send it to the prescribed address.
Online application form
Online application form can be completed at UPSC official website

Online application process can be completed in two parts
In first part you will fill up all the basic details like name, father name, qualification etc and submit the application form.
You can pay application fee through SBI challan form, Net banking or ATM card.

First of all to become an IPS officer you have to apply for Civil Services Exam that is conducted by UPSC every year. The Exam is conducted for graduates.
to appear in Civil Services exam you have to complete graduation
in any discipline from recognized college or university with any percentage.
Civil Services exam constitutes three parts:
1. CSAT
2. Mains
3. Interview
for appearing in exam you have to fulfill some other requirement like:
>>you must have completed or appearing in final year of graduation.
>>your age must be within 21 years to 30 years on 1 August of the year of exam. there is relaxation in upper age limit upto 3 years for OBC and 5 years for SC/ST candidates.
Limit Number Of Attempts:

Preliminary exam : Two papers would be conducted in objective type pattern and each paper contains 200 marks and you will have to qualify each paper then you would be eligible for next step.

Physical Standards : In IPS exam you will have to qualify the physical and medical standards which are following as :
Hight Male - 165 cm and 160 cm for ST category candidates
Hight Female - 150 cm and 145 cm for ST category candidates
Chest Male - 84 cm and 5 cm expansion
Chest Female - 79 cm and 5 cm expansion
Eye Sight - For Good Eye the near vision should be - 6/6 or 6/9 and for worst eye it should be - 6/12 or 6/9 and J1 Distant vision for good and J2 distant vision for worst eye
Ear - Normal Listening ear cavity with frequency of 1000 - 4000 and hearing impairment should not be more than 30 decibels
Nasal - Candidate should not stammer while speaking/talking/conversing
Female - Ladies should not be pregnant during the medical and physical standards test
