IES and IAS have the equal status and equal powers and both the exams are conducted by the upsc only but there is a basic difference and that is IES stands for indian engineering service so it is necessary to have engineering degree to apply for IES and IAS stands for indian administrative services which requires any graduate degree,but the exam pattern is same for both.

IAS indian administrative services employess are more powerful then IES officers as former deals with range of administrative works of central govt. they are work simultaneously for both STATE or central govt.

whereas IES officers are deal only with the specific work of central govt. of technical nature likes of they take charges of TRAI,METRO RAILS,CIVIL WORKS,RAILWAY works, etc all of technical nature.

though both have same PAY-BAND scale but IAS have better growth among all the officer's of CLASS-A.

Well my friend no doubt A IAS officer have more power

Than compare with a IES office post

But it does not mean that a ies is a lower post

But Ias has no doubt more power full post

Also You can also assume as Ias post is for the

Highest post of the country and very much reputed post

Also But Ies post is for the post for the engineering

And yes Ies have to work under the Ias

As the Ias is you highest post

IAS has more power than IES. both are different field.
IAS deals with administrative services and IES deals with technical services.
IAS is more prestigious post than IES.

I.A.S.officer had more power then I.E.S. officer .I.A.S. & I.E.S. exams are both conducted with upsc . but both types ,post and power are different .

IAS(Indian Administrative Service)
Getting a job with the IAS is a status symbol in India and those who are in such a position are respected and admired by everyone. IAS salary structure consists of four Pay Scales: Junior Scale, Senior Scales, Super Time Scale, and Above Super Time Scale.

Pay Band: Rs 15600-39100 Grade Pay Rs 5400

Senior Scales

(i) Senior Time Scale

Pay Band: Rs 15600-39100 Grade Pay Rs 6600
(ii) Junior Administrative Grade

Pay Band: Rs 15600-39100 Grade Pay Rs 7600
(iii) Selection Grade

Pay Band: Rs 37400-67000 Grade Pay Rs 8700

Super Time Scale

IES
Engineering Services (ES) are the technical services that meet the technical and managerial functions of the government of India. At the time of selection candidates enjoy the rank of assistant executive engineer Foremost promotion will be based on rank you get in IES exam. After that promotions will depend on Seniority and other factors like confidential reports. Growth will be faster in some departments like Railways and slower in others like CWC.

Pay Scale:


15600 (Basic)+5400(Grade)+DA+HRA+others Gross would be around 36,000Rs per month.

no IES officer does not work under IAS because both are seperate fields.

Dear, ies and ias exam pattern is same .for ies, those candidate had engineering degree can apply for ies.for ias any graduate candidate apply.power of both is same and this taken under upsc government of india.

IAS and IES are of the same level as far as the amount of powers are concerned. but IES is a technical field related post but IAS is a bureaucratic post who can directly approach the PM , CM , Ministers etc. people who make the policies but IES doesn't have such an authority

AND IAS stands for INDIAN ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICE
BOTH EXAMS ARE CONDUCTED BY UPSC .
IES is related to Technical and managerial aspect while IAS is more of administrative aspect
AND IAS IS RELATED TO ADMINISTRATIVE ASPECT

I.A.S are concerned with policy making and policy implementation in the administration and have a greater opportunity to further socio- economic transformation of society because of its all in one and general character. where as I.E.S is more of technical and less of administration, specific and cofined to few domains.

IAS is concerned with ADMINISTRATION..........IES is a technical service.........
IAS is, in the terminology of public administration, in the LINE structure......and IES is basically the STAFF.

Both IES and IAS are senior employee of Govt. But depends upon their sector whereas IAS dealt with PM , CM , as Secretariat while IES is at the same level but in technical cadre . Although people used to go for IAS generally as they were supposed to have more power than IES because of their routine proceedings with PM , CM and other senior Diplomats.
