Re: Which optional subjects should I choose for UPSC mains exam being a Mechanical engineering student? UPSC is Union Public Service Commission which conducts many exams in which Civil Service Exam(CSE) is one of the them. The most popular misnomer of the CSE is 'IAS Exam' or 'UPSC Exam'. The choice of optional subject depends on your personal interest itself. But I'd suggest someone to go with Public Administration as its less content to study. You can have a look at the list of optional subjects at http://www.upsc.gov.in

Optional Subjects for UPSC Main Exam :: ~~ Agriculture ~~ Chemistry ~~ Mathematics ~~ Botany ~~ Law ~~ Mechanical Engineering ~~ Philosophy ~~ Physics ~~ Political Science ~~ Psychology ~~ Sociology ~~ Zoology ~~ Statistics ~~ Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science ~~ Civil Engineering ~~ Commerce ~~ Economics ~~ Electrical Engineering ~~ Geography ~~ Geology ~~ Indian History ~~ Public Administration ~~ Medical Science Mostly the main examination will be conducted in the month of Oct OR Nov and the exam time table will be published after announcing the prelims exam results . The time will be publish with one week OR month after announcing results . Having completed degree in Mechanical Engineering then i would suggest the UPSC option subjects is Mechanical Engineering and Related to the Art Subjects like History , Geology , Geography , Psychology , Public Administration . But if you are not interested in Arts subjects then select the related to Mathematical Calculations like Mathematics OR Statistics . It is also one of the second best option . You can select any two subjects from above list but you have a some knowledge in the subjects . Choose the subjects according to your interest . Official Website :: www.upsc.gov.in

Re: Which optional subjects should I choose for UPSC mains exam being a Mechanical engineering student? Dear Aspirant, - The MAINS EXAMS of the CIVIL SERVICES are conducted in OCTOBER & NOVEMBER by the UPSC. Having completed Your Bachelors in Engineering in Mechanical Engineering,I WOULD PERSONALLY RECOMMEND THAT THE BEST OPTION FOR YOU IS TO CHOOSE "MECHANICAL ENGINEERING" and "AN ARTS SUBJECT". This might just be the PERFECT COMBINATION for you. Studying Mechanical Engineering for a period of four years, you will not find tough to deal with it at all. With a little bit of polishing,You might just get perfect in it,which would help you attend the subjective questions in the Mains exams. As for the SECOND Optional Subject, the Main reason to ask you to go for the ARTS Subjects is that they are PARTICULARLY VERY SCORING. -The subjects such as PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION,INDIAN HISTORY,POLITICAL SCIENCE & GEOGRAPHY have helped students score very high marks and achieve success way better than the other subjects. -These subjects also form the core of the PAPER-I of the PRELIMINARY EXAMS,which will help you prepare for both the Premiums and the Mains, simultaneously. Thus, saving a lot of time. -HOWEVER,THE FINAL CALL IS YOURS. Choose, subjects based only upon your interests and eagerness to study.Only then will you be able to fetch good results. TAKE YOUR TIME and MAKE THE BEST CALL. -For any details, including the LIST of subjects and others, regarding the CIVIL SERVICE exams, visit the OFFICIAL WEBSITE of the UPSC : www.upsc.gov.in ALL THE BEST.
