you can choose mathematics and Mechanical Engineering as Optional Subjects in UPSC mains.
as both subjects are related to mechanical engineering..so these are helpful for you in UPSC exams.
Good Luck.........
Dear Aspirant,
- The MAINS EXAMS of the CIVIL SERVICES are conducted in OCTOBER & NOVEMBER by the UPSC.
Having completed Your Bachelors in Engineering in Mechanical Engineering,I WOULD PERSONALLY RECOMMEND THAT THE BEST OPTION FOR YOU IS TO CHOOSE
"MECHANICAL ENGINEERING" and "AN ARTS SUBJECT".
This might just be the PERFECT COMBINATION for you.
Studying Mechanical Engineering for a period of four years, you will not find tough to deal with it at all.
With a little bit of polishing,You might just get perfect in it,which would help you attend the subjective questions in the Mains exams.
As for the SECOND Optional Subject, the Main reason to ask you to go for the ARTS Subjects is that they are PARTICULARLY VERY SCORING.
-The subjects such as PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION,INDIAN HISTORY,POLITICAL SCIENCE & GEOGRAPHY have helped students score very high marks and achieve success way better than the other subjects.
-These subjects also form the core of the PAPER-I of the PRELIMINARY EXAMS,which will help you prepare for both the Premiums and the Mains, simultaneously.
Thus,saving a lot of time.
-HOWEVER,THE FINAL CALL IS YOURS.
Choose, subjects based only upon your interests and eagerness to study.Only then will you be able to fetch good results.
TAKE YOUR TIME and MAKE THE BEST CALL.

ALL THE BEST.

being a MECH student you can choose MECHANICAL ENGG & MATH as 2 optional subjects in main exam.
this two subjects will be easy for you to prepare.
$$$$$$$$ Hi Friend!! $$$$$$$$
UPSC is Union Public Service Commission which conducts many exams in which Civil Service Exam(CSE) is one of the them.
The most popular misnomer of the CSE is 'IAS Exam' or 'UPSC Exam'.
The choice of optional subject depends on your personal interest itself.
But I'd suggest someone to go with Public Administration as its less content to study.
You can have a look at the list of optional subjects at http://www.upsc.gov.in/general/civil.htm#CS (Main)

Mostly the main examination will be conducted in the month of Oct OR Nov and the exam time table will be published after announcing the prelims exam results . The time will be publish with one week OR month after announcing results .
Having completed degree in Mechanical Engineering then i would suggest the UPSC option subjects is Mechanical Engineering and Related to the Art Subjects like History , Geology , Geography , Psychology , Public Administration .
But if you are not interested in Arts subjects then select the related to Mathematical Calculations like Mathematics OR Statistics . It is also one of the second best option .
You can select any two subjects from above list but you have a some knowledge in the subjects . Choose the subjects according to your interest .

dear ,
it is fully depend on you that which subject do you like most and which subject do you want to take as optional subject in mains examination.
but if you want advice than i tell you that as you are a graduate with mechanical engineering than you have to take mechanical engineering as your first optional subject and for second optional subject you have to take political science /sociology.
but you have other choices also.
see the attachment for more subjects which you can take as second optional subject.
Hi...friend
You can choose optional subjects as engineering mathematics,
your mechanical subject and engineering physics
I would like to say is ..you must concentrate on upsc common subjects
as like Indian history, economics and politics
These are the common to every upsc exam
And also you have to concentrate on the concepts like
reasoning subjects and numerical and also english
The one and only other common subject is general awareness of all topics
any way good luck...![]()

Hi Aspirant
Upsc is conducting the civil services exam
Every year and the exam is also one of the most
Difficult and infact highest difficult test
And for the exam first their is pre exam and then the mains
And the mains exam is very much difficult because their so much students are attempting the exam
But only few students get success and after the mains exam their is Interview
And from the point of optional subjects it is depend on you
As once you will choose the optional subjects then you can't change them
So you have to choose the optional subjects your self
But normally the arts subjects are very good and scoring subjects
But choose the subjects with your own choice
Best of luck
