See recruitment in IPS (Inidan Police Services ) is done through civil service examination.Civil service examination is conducted by UPSC every year.

The examination pattern of civil services examination is discussed below:
First of all you have to qualify the preliminary examination.Preliminary examination is of qualifying nature.When you qualify in this exam you are taken to next level that is main examination.Preliminary examination consists of two paper.Paper I will consists question on General Studies and Paper II will consists questions on English Comprehension and Reasoning and aptitude .Each paper is of 2 hrs duaration consisting of 200 marks each and MCQ type questions.

The main examination consists of written examination and Interview Test .The format of written examination is given below:
Paper 1:Section 1 Essay 200Marks
Section2 English Comprehension & English Pr�cise 100 Marks (Of Matriculation/ Xth standard level)
Paper 2:General Studies�I Indian Heritage andCulture, History and Geography of the World and Society 250 marks
Paper 3:General Studies �II Governance,Constitution, Polity, Social Justice and International relations 250marks
Paper 4:General Studies �III Technology,Economic Development, Bio-diversity, Environment, Security and DisasterManagement 250marks
Paper 5:General Studies �IV Ethics, Integrityand Aptitude 250 marks
Paper 6:Optional Subject � Paper 1 250 Marks
Paper 7:Optional Subject � Paper 2 250 Marks

Friend, IPS is cleared in three stages: prelims,mains and physical interview. In prelims, questions based on general knowledge and Indian economy are asked. You should also pay attention to current affairs in every field to clear IPS prelims.
