UPSC Have kept only three departments of Engineering for the subjects/ They are 1. Civil Engineering 2. Electrical Engineering 3. Mechanical Engineering You have to choose these subjects. or another subjects. Better you go to the official website of the UPSC i.e. upsc.gov.in

UPSC Civil Services Exams are held in three stages: Prelims MAINS Interview In the Prelims Exams there are two papers Both these papers are in Objective mode Both these papers are common for all the candidates There is no optional paper in the Prelims Exams In the Mains exams which is conducted for all those candidates who clear the Prelims Exams there are 7 papers Out of this 5 papers are manadatory for all candiadates You have to choose one optional subject and this optional subject will have two papers Below are the Engineering Subjects in the Optional papers list: Civil Engineering Electrical Engineering Mechanical Engineering So, if you want you can choose Electrical engineering as Optional subject Other optional subjects for Main Examination from which you can choose your subject are Agriculture Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science Anthropology Botany Chemistry Commerce and Accountancy Economics Geography Geology History Law Management Mathematics Medical Science Philosophy Physics Political Science and International
Re: Can I take Electronics and Communication Engineering as optional subject in IAS exam? sorry to say that you can't able to take Electronics and Communication subject as your optional subject. because this subject is not listed in the list of optional subjects for IAS. you have to choose any one subject as your optional subject from the following list of subjects. according to new pattern there is no optional subjects for prelims and you have to choose only one subject as optional subject for mains instead of two. i will advice you to select the subject which you interest and which you can study easily and already know about subject. this will help you in preparation. List Of optional subjects for Mains exam: (i) Agriculture (ii) Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science (iii) Anthropology (iv) Botany (v) Chemistry (vi) Civil Engineering (vii) Commerce and Accountancy (viii) Economics (ix) Electrical Engineering (x) Geography (xi) Geology (xii) History (xiii) Law (xiv) Management (xv) Mathematics (xvi) Mechanical Engineering (xvii) Medical Science (xviii) Philosophy (xix) Physics (xx) Political Science and International Relations (xxi) Psychology (xxii) Public Administration (xxiii) Sociology (xxiv) Statistics (xxv) Zoology for IAS you have to write Civil Services exam that is conducted by UPSC. for Civil Services you must have graduation degree and your age must be within 21 years to 30 years. there is relaxation in upper age upto 3 years for OBC and 5 years for SC/ST. Dear aspirant, In upsc ias/ips exam there R 3 engineering subjects. 1 mechanical engg. 2 electrical engh. 3 civil engg....u can not take electronics & communication engg. Bt U can take public administration or geography or sociology.. Public administration would be best subject for U bcoz it will help u in score more in mains & after u bcome ias public administration will help u....
