�� If you age limit for writing this exam is 21 - 30 years only but for SC candidates it is between 21 - 35 years,so they get extra 5 years chance to write.

�� Secondly the number of permissible attempt for writing this exam is only 4 times for general caste but for SC students there is no limit they can write as much times they can.

�� More over the fee for writing this exam is reduced for SC candidates.

sc/st students get the maximum benefits in civil services examination then any other category, they get 16% reservation and also an age relaxation of 5 years and they can apply any number of times for the exam.

first government provide age relaxation of 5 years to sc,st candidates.
secondly , these candidates have no limit to give exam. than other category.

SC/ST candidates get many benefits in Civil Service Examination.

1)Age limit is 21-30 for general category.SC/ST candidates get 5 yrs relaxation.
2)There is no restriction for number of attempts in the case of SC/ST candidates.
3)A certain percentage of seats are reserved for SC/ST candidates.

SC candidates:- 15%

ST candidates:- 7.5%

4)Cutoff marks for SC/ST candidates are low compared to general category cutoff.

If you belongs to SC category then you will be given the reservation in Age and in number of attempts of the IAS exam.

You can apply for the IAS exam upto the age of 35 years and there is no limit for you to attempts the IAS exam.
You can attempt the IAS exam till your upper age limit.

So these are the reservation given to the SC student in UPSC.
You must have a graduation degree from a recognized university for the IAS exam.

It is nice that you want to join IAS exam. IAS exam is civil services exam which is conducted by UPSC.

IAS exam requires a graduation degree from a recognized university any stream.

There is no percentage requirement.

Appearing in final year candidates are also Eligible.

SC Reservation in IAS exam ;-

Age limit for SC category is 21-35 years.

There is 5 year Age relaxation for SC category candidates.


There is no limit to apply IAS exam for SC category candidates.

Number of attempt is Infinite for SC category.

You must be Indian citizen.

in the IAS recruitment, the relaxation in the age criteria as well in the number of attempts is given to the sc/st students.
A relaxation of 5 years is given in the age criteria. For general candidates, the age limit for giving the IAS exam is 21-30 years, whereas the age limit for the sc/st candidates is 21-35 years.
Moreover there is no restrictions in giving the exam in the 21-35 years age limit and there wont be any fees of giving the exam.
