If you are talking about your community (general, SC, ST, OBC), you can't choose. It is already provided to you at the time of your birth. Thanks, goyalk

UPSC conduct many exam and as being a IT graduate you are eligible for many exam which list are List of exam in which you are eligible CSAT exam IES exam CDS exam IFS exam 1. Civil Service Examinations (CSAT exam): this exam is also known as IAS exam. b-tech candidate are eligible for this exam. This exam include 3 stage Prelims, Mains, Interview for eligibility Candidate should be graduate from recognized university, and age in in between 21 to 30 year, 2. Indian Engineering Service Exams (IES).: this exam is only for engineer candidate. only those candidate are eligible for this exam whose b-tech degree in Mechanical, Civil Engineering ,Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering 3. Combined Defence Services Exams (CDS): this is the exam of defence sector, For eligibility candidate should be completed graduation and age should be 19 to 25 year. Best of luck

To appear for UPSC Exams you just need to be a graduate. Various Exams are conducted by UPSC for graduates some for them are listed below: Civil Services Exam (IAS,IRS, IPS) Engineering Services Exam (Civil,mechanical,electrical, electronics engg) IFS Exam (Forest Services) CDS Exam (Combined Defence Services) ISS Exam (Statistical Services) CPF Exam (Central Police Force) CMS Exam (Combined Medical Services) The Basic eligibility criteria for maximum exams are: The candidate should have a degree in any discipline from university recognized by UGC. Final Year students can also apply. Can I choose my own category? i m student of s.y.b.sc(it),mumbai university interested to give upsc exam for ias after completing my final year bsc(it) but confused as i m a student of 12th(commerce) stream,interested in economics and accounts subjects till 12th.but now i m a student of (it),so unable to choice the optional paper after the priliminary exam of upsc [csat-i and csat-ii].and also tell me that maths related ouestion will be asked in the exam and for that where to prepare is ncert syallubus is sufficient,if yes than plse suggest from which class i start to prepare.plse solve my problem and quaries.thanku

Hi Aspirant, Students of Information technology can apply for UPSC civil service exam for the post of IAS, IPS or IRS etc. Required Qualification Must be graduate in any stream Final year students are also eligible to apply Age should be 21 to 30 years Age relaxation SC/ST + 5 years OBC + 3 years PH + 10 years You must be Indian. Of course if your are graduate with information technology then you can apply for ias/ips examination. And if you are B.Tech in IT then you can appear in ies examination i.e. engineering services exam. First of all you have to go through the Question Pattern for which exam you want to appear. You can download and print Previous Years Question Papers at www.upsc.gov.in
