Choice of optional subjects & scoring in those subjects depends on the depth of knowledge you possess. If you have good knowledge on Public administration and Psychology then you can opt for it. If you are still confused then refer some books on these from any library. It will help you in taking decision if you are comfortable with these subjects. Dear friend, firstly let me tell you there is no subject which can be said it is scoring.upsc is trying to maintain atmost parity between various optionals. No optional is safe or unsafe.it is your level of preparation which makes the difference optionals should be carefully chosen. The interest in the subject,availability of study material and guidance,syllabus,your educational should be kept in mind while deciding the optionals.caerefull choose and dont choose becoz somebody it telling to do so. Some famous subjects which many people take are: Anthropology,geography,history,political science,public administration,sociology,psychology etc. All the best

Hi Aspirant, Don�t worry about the selection of optional subject for CSE mains exam. But it is serious decision and should be taken very carefully. Yes friend public administration and psychology are good subjects to score well. Public administrate will also help you after cracking the UPSC exam in real life. Psychology is good subject to gain good marks. Friend you didn�t mention about your graduation. In my point of view you should choose one subject related to your graduation subjects. And choose one subject as per your interest like History, Psychology, Public Administration, Sociology etc. Optional Subject Agriculture Animal husbandry & vetinary science Anthropology Botany Chemistry Civil engineering Commerce and accountancy Economics Geography Indian History Management Mathematics Mechanical engineering Medical science Philosophy Physics Political science & international relations Psychology Sociology Statistics Zoology UPSC includes 20 subjects in optional list. I am B.E. computer science engineer, i do not know which subject to take in the upsc mains could you give suggestion for me, i think public administration and psychology ok , but i donot know how these subjects are and the rest of the subjects
