--> Electrical Circuits:- Kirchoff's Laws, Mesh and Nodal analysis. Transient response, Resonant circuits, Three phase circuits, Elements of two-element network synthesis
--> Electrical Materials:- Band Theory, Super conductivity, Ferro and Ferri magnetism. Ceramics, Properties and applications. Hall effect and its applications.
--> Measurements and Instrumentation :-Units and Standards. Error analysis, measurement of current, Voltage, power, Power-factor and energy. Indicating instruments. Measurement of resistance, inductance, Capacitance and frequency. Bridge measurements. Electronic measuring instruments.Transducers and their applications.
--> Control Systems
--> Electrical Machines and Power Transformers :- EMF, torque, basic machine types. Construction and operation, leakage losses and efficiency, Generators and motors, Single-phase synchronous and induction motors
--> Analog & Digital electronics & circuits:- Small signal amplifiers, biasing circuits,feed-back amplifiers,Oscillators,RAM and ROM, switching behavior of diodes and transistors
--> Communication Systems:-Types of modulation
--> Power electronics:- Thyristor. Power transistor, GTO and MOSFETS,1-phase and 3-phase DC to DC Converters; AC regulators. Thyristor controlled reactors; switched capacitor networks.

The IES exams conducted by the UPSC are not that easy to crack.As on offer are the best technical posts at the centre,so the level of competition is very high.
The total marks for this exam is a 1000.
So my advice to you is to know your subject to its depth.
Selective study won't help at all,,as the exam covers a very vast syllabus and no section can be avoided.
You also need to practice a lots of model papers to get used to its pattern.

Therefore,leaving any topic might be inviting trouble for yourself.
So prepare for everything for best results.

i'm a EEE student. applied for IES. i want to know important topics in electrical subjects. can i omit any of the topic??
