IPS stands for Indian Police Services. IPS is one of the top posts of INDIA. for IPS you have to write Civil Services exam. that is conducted by UPSC. IN IPS almost every year 3,50,000 candidates appear for exam and at the end only almost 200 candidates are appointed as IPS officer.


for Civil Services exam you need graduation degree from recognized college or university.
your age must be within 21 years to 30 years. there is relaxation in upper limit upto 3 years for OBC and 5 years for SC/ST candidates.

Physical Requirements:


Height:- Male 165 cm & ST(not for SC and OBC) 160 cm.
Female 150 cm & ST(not for SC and OBC) 145 cm.
Chest:- Male minimum 84 cm. Expansion 5 cm.
Female minimum 79 cm. Expansion 5 cm.
Eye Sight:- 6/6 or 6/9 distant vision for good Eye
6/12 or 6/9 for worst eye.
Near Vision J1 for Good Eye and J2 for worst eye.

• For indian police services (IPS), you need to apply for the civil services examination conducted by UPSC.
• You must have completed the graduation in any of the discipline and it should be from the recognised university only.
• The age of your's should be in between 21 years to 30 years.
• There is the relaxation in upper age limit for the students who comes under the reserved category.
• You must also need to be the citizen of India.

first of all let me tell you that for getting IPS you should clear Civil Services Examination with a good rank.So right answer for your question is that the basic qualifications required for appearing in Civil Services Examination are:-

1.You should have completed your graduation from any stream but from a recognized university.

2.The age limit is 21-30 years for General candidates(4 attempts) with a relaxation in age of 3,5 and 5 years for OBC(7 attempts),SC(unlimited attempts) and ST(unlimited attempts) candidates respectively.

3.Candidates in their final year of graduationcan also apply for the same.

4.You should be a citizen of India.

Educational qualification:

Any degree or an equivalent qualification from recognized university .

Age Criteria:

Upper age relaxation for reserved category candidates is as follows:

3 years for OBC.

5 years for SC/ST

Exam Pattern :

Preliminary Examination: It is of objective type, which is a qualifying examination.

Main Examination: It consists of written examination and interview.

Graduation Degree in any stream from a recognized university are applicable for IPS Exam, the final year students also eligible for applying preliminary examination

Age criteria for IPS exam for general candidate is 21 to 30 years old.

Age relaxation for IPS exam:-

5 years relaxation for SC/ST candidates
3 years relaxation for OBC Candidates
10 years relaxation for PHC candidates
5 years relaxation for Ex-serviceman

The maximum attempts for SC/ST candidate is Unlimited. For OBC candidate it is 7 years and for general candidate it will be 5 years.

The exam is known by the name Civil services exam.

>> See stream does not matter at all, You are eligible with any stream.

>> Even percentage does not matter, you just need to be passed.

AGE CRITERIA WHICH IS AN IMPORTANT CRITERIA FOR SELECTION:

Age limit differs from category to category.

like If you belong to General category your age should be between 21 to 30 yrs.

But if you belong to reserved category then there is an upper age relaxation.

I.P.S --- INDIAN POLICE SERVICES

This exam is conducted by the U.P.S.C

To get in to the I,.P.S field you must give the C.S.A.T exam


C.S.A.T --- CIVIL SERVICES APTITUDE TEST

And the minimum Qualification is GRADUATION from a recognized university


THE STREAM MAY BE OF ANY THING ..

And you must have secured a minimum of 60% in Academics


The minimum age must be 21 years

Maximum age is allowed up to 30 years

Of course there is an age relaxation for the reserved candidates

Eligibility for UPSC IPS Examination 2013-14

Candidate should have passed bachelor's degree examination of a recognized university and final year pursuing candidates are also eligible to apply for preliminary examination of IPS

Age should be minimum 21 years and should not be more than 30 years and if you belongs to reserved category then you can claim for upper age relaxation as per government norms which is 5 years for SC/ST and 3 years for OBCs

Examination Pattern and Selection Procedure for IPS Officer post

Preliminary Examination - Two objective type papers which are - General Studies and CSAT - Civil Service Aptitude Test contains 200 marks each and passing in prelims is compulsory to be eligible for main exam

Mains Examination - Seven conventional type papers will be scheduled which are - Paper I is for Essay writing and English Comprehension contains 300 marks. Paper II, III, IV and V will be based on General Studies containing 250 marks each and Paper VI and VII will be asked over the optional subject that will be selected by you from the list and both contains 250 marks each. Qualifying in all papers of main examination is compulsory that is why you have to prepare well for examination and each papers so you could score good marks

Personality Test - 275 marks. This will be the final stage of your selection for IAS post and if you prefer for IPS Officer post then you will have to go under a particular physical and medical test and if you pass that test then you will become IPS Officer and if couldn't then your post will be changed from IPS to other

Better way to prepare for this examination is you take guidance of any good institute which provides study of IPS and IAS examination by experienced faculties and you will get good motivation and right direction to become IPS Officer and now you have enough time to prepare well for this examination because next IPS examination is scheduled to be held around May 2014 (Preliminary) so prepare and focus more on that

Minimum requirement is a bachelor degree from and government approved UGC act certified college.
Age limit should be minimum 21 and max 30 for OC, 33 for MBC, 35 for SC/ST and ex-army.
The candidate should be an Indian citizen.
