upsc allows the aspirants to select any subject they like or which they feel they are good at.
upsc has provided the candidate a list of subjects from which they have find the best possible combination of subjects that is best fit according to their education or preparation for the upsc civil services exam.

Main Exam Optional Subjects
Agriculture, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, Anthropology, Botany, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Commerce and Accountancy, Economics, Electrical Engineering, Geography, Geology, History, Law, Management, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Medical Science, Philosophy, Physics, Political Science and International Relations, Psychology, Public Administration, Sociology, Statistics, Zoology.

but be aware of certain combination that are not allowed by upsc as they require almost same study for their preparation .they are as follows

#Mathematics and Statistics;
#Agriculture and Animal Husbandry &Veterinary Science.
#Management and Public Administration;
#Of the Engineering subjects like Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering
#Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science and Medical Science.
#Political Science & International Relations and Public Administration;
#Commerce & Accountancy and Management;
#Anthropology and Sociology;

-Yes !! A BTech student can definitely opt for an ARTS subject for the MAINS EXAM of the CIVIL SERVICES.
You are free to choose any subject,which features in the list of optional subjects,for the MAINS EXAMS.

-From my personal point of view,you have made a very wise decision to opt for the Arts subjects for the mains.

>> These subjects include INDIAN HISTORY,PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION,GEOGRAPHY and POLITICAL SCIENCE.
>> These are highly scoring subjects.They are preferred by all sorts of students,and have even helped in fetching rewards.They have a higher success rate when compared to the other subjects.
>> Added to this,the Paper-I of the Preliminary exams basically constitutes of these subject.Hence,you will be able to prepare for both the prelims and mains simultaneously.Thus saving a lot of time.

Yes a B.Tech. student can opt Art subjects for UPSC Civil Services Mains Exam.

There is no restriction on any applicant for choosing his or her subjects for the main's exam.

Any one can choose any subject from the given list of subjects for the Main's exam.

you can choose any 2 subjects from 25 optional subjects.

be clear while choosing subjects.
my suggestion is take subjects in which you have basic ideas, knowledge,easy to prepare.

IAS exam is a misnomer of 'Civil Service Exam' (CSE).

The answer to your question is definitely YES.

You can opt anything from the list of 25 optional subjects.

There's no objection for that.

All you need to have is a passed graduation certificate (any degree).

You can have a look at the previous year question papers or whatever you want at http://upsc.gov.in/

geography etc

but following the all optional subject
