a)civil engineering
b)mechanical engineering
c)electrical engineering
d)electronics and communication engineering
Each category have two papers
Objective type question,conventional type question papers.
Each category have two objective type question paper and two conventional type question papers.

IES stands for Indian Engineering Services. the exam is conducted by UPSC every year.
For IES you must have Engineering degree in any stream from recognized college or university.
but you have to write IES exam in any stream from the following list of streams:
Civil Engineering
Mechanical Engineering
Electrical Engineering
Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering
for IES your age should be within 21 years to 30 years on 1 January of the year of exam. there is also applicable relaxation of 3 years for OBC and 5 years for SC/ST candidates.
