highest total marks scored up to now is 1394 out of 2300.
this 1394 is total all the subject marks and interview.
for getting good marks in this subject you must prepare equally for all subjects ehich you have selected
it is not possible by preparing 3 or 4 subjects.

Don't think about it you can get the good score by your own efforts. First of all you have to familiar with Question Pattern for the examination. You can download and print previous years question papers at upsc official website www.upsc.gov.in
Practice more and more Model Test Papers are valuable for you. You can then understand the pattern of examination.
You have to choose the Subjects for the IAS mains and ready to prepare for it.
NCERT is the best book, it cover all UPSC syllabus .

highest marks scored in IAS is 1394. To get better marks you have to do better preparation and revise all subjects thoroughly.

to get highest marks in civils.....................
Just prepare the subjects mainly social and g.k ,aptitude
because these three areas cover 75%of portion and 25% of your subjects opted and you may select the subject you are intersted and well known..............
