Friend Civil services exam is conducted by U.P.S.C once in a year.
If you want you can start preparation form B.Tech First year.
HERE SOME GOLDEN TIPS FOR PREPARATION
1. Be very particular about the subject you choose for prelims, as you will be appearing for an objective type of paper.History, maths, geography may prove to be very scoring. Choose subjects which have availability of books, reading material and guidance. In recent years engineering subjects like civil and electrical can be chosen, giving BEs and IITians an edge (yes! even here they are giving the BAs and BScs a tough fight!
2.G.K. will definitely pay in your prelims. Reading newspapers, watching TV news and of course quiz shows like KBC is a must.
3. If you have been lucky enough to reach the interview stage book knowledge may not be the only thing you need. Your mental alertness will count as they ask you questions like �How many steps did you walk up to reach here?� or � What is the colour of the wall behind you ?� - So be prepared.
4.Enhance your personality because it will definitely be one of the criteria for selection. For IPS physical wellbeing is of great importance, you should be medically fit.
5.Improve your communication skills. IFS aspirants must be proficient in at least one foreign language. So go ahead, have your say in this political mess of our country and try to make it a better place.

1.choose two optionals carefully & start improving writing in them, do practice to write answers in essay manners in particularily these two subjects atleast.
2. learn NCERT BOOKS FROM class III to XII,fro the general studies.
3.start reading two good level competitive magazines like compeptition success review,prtiyogita darpan,frontline for the current affairs.
4.purchase a good ATLAS,learn it heartly.
5.order correspondance study material (though it is optional upto you)
you can take two optionals among the history,geography,pol.science, public administration,physioloy,sociology
as these subjects contains major part of the prelim's which is first stage of qualification for the same & important.

-03. Improve your writing skills.Adopt better ways of representations.Remove your Grammatical and Spelling errors.
-04. Practice writing an essay daily.It would help you develop both language skills,and prepare for the ESSAY-PAPER in the Mains.
-05. Enhance your General Knowledge.Keep yourself tuned to newspapers,THE HINDU in particular.The monthly magazine Pratiyogita Darpan is also recommended.
-06. Solve a lot of model papers and previous years question papers.

It is good time to prepare for UPSC exams like IAS/IPS/IFS, because you are going to start since begening, you must go through the detailed study exactly according to syllabus and must have clear concept. In addition to this, you also cover latest GK with the help of TV news and newpapers.

please keep in mind that subject combination is very important aspects, you must have History, in my opinion, as a optional subject.
dear u have 4 golden year to ready for ias so first opt your subject for ias and then regular study for that subject and gk and all important write skills for ias and be + for you r work and ias is mainly mentally work so ready for that hard work is need for that .,

-> read the manorama year book for improving your gk
