Actually there is no difference between district magistrate and district collector. Both are roles played by the deputy commissioner of an Indian district. In revenue matters like land revenue, taxes and fees the deputy commissioner being the highest officer of revenue administration in the district acts as the 'district collector'. Again the deputy commissioner being the head of criminal administration and supervisor of all executive magistrates in the district, he acts as the 'district magistrate' in matters relating to these issues. Therefore in conclusion both district magistrate and collector are roles vested upon the DC of an Indian district by the constitution of India.![]()
