Main Exam Pattern:-
In Civil service mains exam, there are 9 papers.
Time duration for each paper is 180 minutes.
Duration of this mains exam is 21 days.
This year civil service mains exam will be conducted in 05.10.2012
Any graduate can apply for this exam.
Only passing mark in graduation is required.
Age limit must be 21-30 years.
Upper age limit is relaxed to lower caste candidates.
Candidates must be Indian citizen & physically strong.

HI,In upsc cs(m) has meaning is, civil services main exam.It has three stages,preliminary exam ,main exam ,and interview.For that exam candidate must be qualified from any stream.Age limit for that exam is, candidate not less than 21 and not more than 30 years.

candidates clearing the PRELIMINARY EXAMINATION are called for the MAINS EXAMINATION.
examination pattern for the
MAINS EXAMINATION
paper 1: 300 marks
one of the language selected by the aspirant from the 22 languages included in the 8th schedule of the constitution.
paper 2: 300 marks
english
paper 3: 200 marks
essay in the language chose by the candidate
paper 4&5: 600 marks
general studies (two papers of 300 marks each)
paper 6,7,8,9: 1200 marks

you have to write the this exam once you qualify the preliminary exam to qualify the civil services exam.this exam has 9 papers and it is a descriptive exam.
the following is the pattern for the mains exam:
MAINS:
general studies(paper1 and paper 2)
optional subject-1(paper1 and paper 2)
optional subject-2(paper1 and paper 2)
essay
language paper(qualifying nature)
english paper(qualifying nature)
so totally 9 papers
after mains you have to appear in the personality test.
for the optional subjects you can choose any subjects provided in the list by the upsc.
the mains exam will be held in the month ofoctober/november.

you can apply for CS(M) exam only if you have cleared the Civil Services Prelims exam now called CSAT exam.
After mains Interview is conducted after clearing interview you are selected for IAS / IPS posts.
Eligibility Criteria:
1. Graduation
2. your age must be within 21 years to 30 years.
