Dear Aspirant
See first you should understand the pattern of examination.Examination is conducted in three phases covering whole topics of your general awareness not like a specific paper. It tests your entire capability at different stages First preliminary examination which is qualifying exam for main exam. Here your general knowledge on topics like History ,civics, geography and other current affairs are tested on first paper and then on second paper your aptitude, reasoning, are checked.Preliminary examination consists of two papers and both are multiple choice type
Then if you qualify preliminary examination then you have to appear for main examination.Main examination consists of seven paper.Out of which first paper is Essay and General English. It is a paper where you need to score good marks for qualify. When you qualify in these papers then only your main paper will be checked.BUt tht doesn't mean you have to wait for other papers. You have to appear in other papers Of General Studies of Paper II-Paper IV
General Studies 1:Indian Heritage and Culture, History and Geography of the World and Society
General Studies 2:Governance, Constitution, Polity, Social Justice and International relations
General Studies 3:Technology, Economic Development, Bio-diversity, Environment, Security and Disaster Management

Apart from general studies paper you have to select one optional paper for main examination Paper VI & VII will be conventional type optional paper
