becoming an IAS officer is difficult. because:

1) there are 3 obstacles relims, mains and the interview
the first two exams are very difficult.
2) the first two tests your academic knowledge. but the interview tests your personality itself. so just studying wont help.
3)communication skills also should be good.
4)you have to be good in general knowledge and current affairs.
5) you also have to remember that all the candidates applying are equally good which makes the exam more difficult. ( especially former IITians)

it is not so called difficult to become IAS officer,the thing is u need to update yourself with daily issues in the world.and the subject u choose as a optional is the one where you have to work real hard.for IAS there is no cut off for your syllabus of study.when u cant c the border with your eyes it really seems too far.
