surendermgh but i read here in upsc discussion somewhere that any graduated b.tech student can apply for the exam but he can give the exam only these categorised subject. iam confused what is right and what is wrong ?
Yes you are eligible to appear for IES/Engineering Services Exam(ESE) being a B.tech graduate in any specialisation.
ESE is conducted by UPSC every year to make recruitments to 4 Categories.
Categories to which recruitments are made through ESE are :
1.Civil Engineering
2.Mechanical Engineering
3.Electrical Engineering
4.Electronics & Tele-communication Engineering
Eligibility For ESE :
Age limit :
General Category-21-30yrs on 1st August of year of exam
OBC-21-33yrs
SC/ST-21-35yrs
Educational Qualification :
-A degree in Engineering from a recognised university or equivalent.
-M.Sc degree or its equivalent with Wireless Communications,
Electronics, Radio Physics or Radio Engineering as special subjects also
acceptable for certain Services/posts only.
Candidates appearing at their engineering degree or equivalent examination are also eligible to compete.
So you can apply to ESE being a B.Tech(Agriculture & food engineering) as it is considered equivalent to an Engineering degree.

Yes definitely you are eligible for IES Exam being a B.Tech (Agriculture and Food Engineering). IES stands for Indian Engineering Services. IES exam is conducted by UPSC every year for the recruitment of candidates in different services such as civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and electronics engineering.
The basic eligibility criteria to appear for the IES Exam are as follows:

SO you are eligible for the exam being a food engineering graduate .
The next thing is that you should satisfy the age criteria which is :
The general age limit is 21-30 years and three years age relaxation to obc and five years to sc/st respectively.
You must be an Indian citizen.
For general candidates there are only four attempts and for the obc it is seven and for the SC/ST there is no limits.
The important dates for the IES 2013 are already over so you can apply for it the next year in 2014.
