    What is the Difference between Engineering Service exam and IES/ISS exam?

    AS I VISITED THE UPSC SITE http://upsc.gov.in/exams/exams.htm.....THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF EXAM GIVEN THERE..1)IES/ISS AND 2)ENGINEERING SERVICE EXAM............THIS TIME I AM PERSUING BTECH IN CIVIL ENGG(3rd yr) frm pune............plzz tell me the difference between them.......and which course should i choose as a optional subject for civil services examination.........plz mail at [email protected]

    IES/ISS is is conducted by the UPSC to recruit Grade IV officers for the Indian Statistical Service (ISS) and Indian Economic Service (IES) where as Engineering Services is a exam conducted by UPSC for recruitment of assistant executive engineers under following categories :-


    Category I�Civil Engineering
    Category II�Mechanical Engineering
    Category III�Electrical Engineering
    Category IV�Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering




    IES/ISS examination comprises of 06 Papers such as General English, General Study, Statistics I, II & III and Indian Economics.


    Enginering Services examination comprises of objective as well as subjective papers.


    General Studies paper is part of the assessment system and the technical subject is divided into two papers (PAPER 1 and PAPER 2)

    THERE TWO EXAMINATIONS ARE QUITE DIFFERENT.
    BUT BOTH THESE EXAMS ARE CONDUCTED BY U.P.S.C.

    FIRST ONE IS INDIAN ENGINEERING SERVICE.
    ENGINEERING SERVICE EXAM IS ONLY FOR ENGINEERING GRADUATE DEGREE HOLDER.

    SECOND ONE IS INDIAN ECONOMIC/STATISTICAL SERVICE EXAMINATION.
    SECOND EXAM IS FOR MASTER DEGREE HOLDER IN STATISTICAL / ECONOMICS SUBJECTS.

    ELIGIBILITY FOR ENGINEERING SERVICE:-

    -- Your age should not be less than 21 years & should not be more than 30 years
    -- The Upper age limit is relaxed to SC,ST & O.B.C. candidates.
    -- For SC/ST candidates 5 years of age relaxation is available. i.e. age limit is 21-35 years
    -- For O.B.C candidates 3 years of age relaxation is given i.e. age limit is 21-33 years
    You must have completed your engineering with following streams.
    --Civil Engineering
    --Electrical Engineering
    --Mechanical engineering.
    --Electronics and Communication Engineering

    You must be physically fit for applying for the post.
    You must be Indian citizen.
    -- 4 number of attempts for open category.
    -- 7 attempts for O.B.C(Other Backward Class).
    -- Unlimited attempts for SC/ST candidates.

    ELIGIBILITY FOR INDIAN ECONOMIC/STATISTICAL SERVICE EXAM:-
    --Candidate must be a post graduate degree holder in Economics/ Business Economics / Econometric / Applied Economics.
    --Candidate must be a master degree holder in Statistics / Applied Statistics / Mathematical Statistics to apply in Indian Statistical Exam.
    --Age limit is 21 years to 30 years.

    Date of notification:-10.03.2012
    Last date for form submission:-09.04.2012
    Date of exam:-15.06.2012

    INDIAN ECONOMIC/STATISTICAL SERVICE EXAMINATION
    Date of notification:-18.08.2012
    Last date for form submission:-17.09.2012
    Date of exam:-01.12.2012

    the both three exam are conducted by the upsc according to the prescribed date.

    To understand for clearly the pattern of these exams please read the following.


    indian engineering exam

    this exam is conducted for the service in the engineering field.



    The main qualification is an engineering degree from a recognized university.
    A final year student can also apply.
    He/she must be a citizen of india


    the date for applying for ies is

    date of notification 10-03-2012
    last date for applications 09-04-2012
    date of exam 15-06-2012





    indian statistical services



    the both exams are held by the upsc the required qualification for the iss is


    post graduate degree in statistics or mathematical statistics
    final year result awaiting candidate can also apply


    age limit is 21 year to 30 year

    date of exam

    date of notification 18 august 2012
    last date for application 17 september 2012
    test date 01 december 2012

    the duration of exam is 3 days.

    Notification or starting date is august

    last date for filling application is september.



    papers in iss


    there are total 4 papers are conducted in iss exam






    indian economics service

    this exam is conducted for recruiting grade 4 officer for iss and ies.

    The required qualification for this exam is post graduation in economics or business economics.
