Dear,
The UPSC conducts the open competitive examinations for various central Govt posts. Therefore the General Studies is the key factor to click the examination. So from this stage if you starts your preparation, then You can definitely gain a vast general knowledge which helps you in future examinations. For the books, the TATA Mcgrawhills's general studies or pearsons's General Studis, etc are the best to you. Best of Luck for the future.

Hii friend..
if you want to know the pattern and sessions of the questions
you should go for through internet
it shows each and every thing as like in examination
but do not read or prepare in internet
internet is just like index and guidence
you should study the concepts like reasoning, arithmetic, aptitude
general science etc in particular books like
r.s.aggarwal and eng version 2012 gk
and also read news papers daily..
it will help you to understand the general awareness
any way friend gud luck..
