Hi i am in my final year of engineering. I am really interested in diplomacy and want a job of representing India at various world forums. Should i prepare for the upsc(IFS) exams or is there another alternative.

- To join the Indian Foreign Services,,You will need to qualify the CIVIL SERVICES EXAMS Conducted annually by the UPSC.
- Also to be taken care is thatyou score a good allover rank,so that you might chose what you desire.
- The exams are conducted in Three phases,namely the preliminary exams,the mains exams and the interviews.
- The forms are released by the end of JANUARY and the last date to apply is by the first week of MARCH.

Indian foreign service officers accompany prime minister during his foreign visits. THey also represent India in world forums like United Nations, World health organization, and other UN organizations. THey also play as negotiators in signing trade, nuclear or defence deals with foreign countries. They will be posted in Indian Embassies in all countries across the globe. Senior most officers are appointed as India's External affairs secretary. They are also posted as ambassadors to foreign countries. Once PM lands on a particular country, India's ambassador to that country will receive him and accompany him.
To become IFS officer, you have to clear upsc civil services exam. This exam is conducted in 3 stages.
Preliminary exam will be usually conducted in may month.
But you have to secure high rank within 150 to get IFS. IFS is the most prestigious service and it is equal in pay and popularity similar to IAS,IPS etc
