IAS stands for Indian Administrative Service, if you become IAS Officer then you should apply in Civil Service Examination which is conducted by Union Public Service Commission .


Eligibility Criteria for IAS Examination -

->You should complete Bachelor degree in any stream from a Recognized University .
->Your age should be between 21-30 years and relaxation will be provided to reserved category.

Yes you can take mathematics as a optional paper if you have good knowledge about this subject. Because if you are in good mathematics then you can score maximum marks because it is a technical subject.Final decision is yours.

All the subjects are good if you are really interested in that.

Coming to your question, yes Mathematics can be a very scoring subject if you have deep knowledge in the concepts which are covered in the syllabus.
You should be able to relate one to the other concept and able to think logically.

The other most important thing is that unlike subjective answers, here if you reach the conclusion correctly there is no scope for you to loose marks(unlike in subj answers where if you miss one point you may be awarded less marks).
