put this quote in your mind very seriously:
"SELF-STUDY and hard labour is the best and the only way to crack IAS examination",
because there is no alternative for hard work and labour and time required for the preparation.
in your preparation, the very first thing, you should be familiar with is your daily newspaper-which you should not ignore at any cost.
secondly, after a month of reading only the newspaper, start some magazines, preferably Pratiyogita Darpan, and a few other current affairs and general studies books or magazines.
don't buy heavy books for any subject. instead divide your preparation into many parts and many time periods-while a daily routine is essential.
-and all you require is to be disciplined for a couple of months before the exam, shorten your TV watching and other entertainment means for these few days.
after around three to three and a half months you can start reading your subject books specifically, although you must be doing the subjects' syllabus even while having just newspaper or magazine times.
for details about the subjects, which to choose and start preparing depends upon what you understands the most, and easily-as easy understanding will provide you interest in the topic and thus, also saving time for the extra studies or readings.
for details of the subjects, etc. do visit the upsc online portal:
