See,follow these tips if you want to improve your reading and writing ability.

1)Read 2-3 hours everyday. Specially focus on the Editorials & other
Analytical & Critical articles. Say in Hindu focus on Magazine, Book
Review, Literary Review, Business Review, Open Page, 2 page OP-ED
Page etc & in The Times of India focus on its Editorial Page. Whenever
you encounter a DIFFICULT PHRASE, EDIOM, PART OF SPEECH etc just
see the Oxford Advanced Learners Dictionary or Chambers Dictionary &
in a Diary note down that word, its meaning, its usage in sentence etc.

2) Jot down POWERFUL & EFFECTIVE sentences that you come across in a
Diary.

3) Revise your Diary in free time many times so that you can remember
these quotations, important words, sentences etc & use them at
relevant places in your Essay in Mains Exam.

4) Read as many books as you can!

improvement would be effective when you had to take part with full of zeal and honestly.i.e

-if you want to improve your reading skills then read books ,magazines,newspaper spend most of time time in reading and understand its meaning.if possible better to read aloud so that you can know how and where to pronounce and to spell a word.while reading,if come towards new words or difficult works,refer the dictionary for the meaning,so that it would make to remember new works.

-coming towards writing skills,you must have grammar knowledge like tenses,phrases,active voice and passive voice,vowels etc.so that when you are writing these things are very useful.
try to write paragraph on any topic which you like.

-write articles,paragraphs,try to make use of phrases ,try to inculcate new words,
-communicate in English with friends,relatives so improve command on english language and make you confident.
