In one year ONLY ONE time YOU CAN give upsc (IPS/IAS) exam, As UPSC conducts this only-once in a year,so that is the limitation reason ( in a year)
besides that permissible attempts depends on the CASTE category of yours.
UPSC can conducts the civil services examsfor( IAS,IPS) also conducts CMS,IES,CPF,CDS,IFS etc......

IAS,IPS,IES,IFS exams can be conducts in 2 stages namely
Preliminary exam
Main examination.
After completion of preliminary exam you are eligible for Main examination.
After clearing the main examination you will be called for final interview.

dear only 1 time in a year civil service notification open and UPSC CIVIL SERVICE EXAM is divided into two Stages:-
-Prelim(CSAT, Civil Service Aptitude Test)
-Main Exam(Written Exam)
1. must be university graduate form reconised university or equivalent.
2.Age criteria :
-One should be in the age group of 21-30 years by 1st August of the year in which the examination is going to be conducted.
-Relaxation in upper age limit upto 3 years for the candidates of OBC
-Relaxation in upper age limit upto 5 years for the candidates of SC/ST.
-Relaxation in upper age limit upto 5 years for Ex-service man.
Dear pal,
- Very limited number of attempts is given for one to attempt the exam. Depending upon your category restriction is provided for you in the exam.
- For general category aspirants maximum of four attempts is provided. For BC, MBC aspirants 7 attempts is provided. For SC, ST aspirants there is no restriction in the number of attempts .
- The age eligibility starts from 21 and a general category aspirant can apply till they are 30 whereas BC, MBC aspirant can apply till 33 years of age . For SC and ST aspirant maximum age is 35.
- The exam is conducted only once in a year. So you can give the exam only one time. So apply for the exam.
The notification for the examination is published in the month of November/December every year in Employment News/Rozgar Samachar.
Preliminary examination - This is qualifying test held in May/June every year. Notification for this is published in December/January. Results are published in the first half of August.
Main examination - This is the main test, held in October/November every year. Results are usually published in the second week of March.
Personality Test (Interview) - It is the final test and is held in April/May every year. Final results are usually announced a few days before the next preliminary examination.
NO. OF ATTEMPTS FOR THE UPSC EXAMINATION IS Civil Service Examination - General-4, OBC-7, SC/ST- No restriction i.e. IF YOU ARE COMING IN GENERAL CATEGORY THEN YOU HAVE TO ATTEMPT 4 TIMES UPSC EXAM.
AND IF YOU ARE COMING IN OBC CANDIDATE THEN YOU CAN ATTEMPT UPSC EXAM 7 TIMES.
- For IAS/IPS you have to appear for Civil Services Exam conducted by UPSC.
- In 1 year you can appear for IAS/IPS only once.
- Every general eligible candidate is allowed to attempt the Civil Services Examination 4 times. For OBC candidate�s no. of attempts is 7 times and for SC/ST infinite no. of attempts till age limit.

Well in one year my friend you can give the upsc
Exam one time only as union public service is conducting the exam only
Once in a year and you can give the exam only one time in a year
but their is limitation of giving the exam
As general candidates can give the exam only 4 times and their age limit is 21-30
And for obc they can appear in the exam 7 times and their age limit is 21-33
And for the sc.st candidates can give the exam as many times they want to give
And their age limit is 21-35
