UPSC conducts the Civil Services Exam(CSE) every year to make recruitments to 24 services/posts.
CSE is one of the toughest and most competitive exam at the All India Level.
Prepration required to appear in the CSE depends upon an individual.
Generally a preparation time of atleast 6 months is required with daily study hrs between 6-8hrs.
Preparation time may exceed to maximum a year to appear/clear CSE.
Syallabus prescribed by UPSC should be strictly followed and each and every topic covered.
To appear in the CSE one should prepare for Prelims/CSAT exam and Mains exams simultaneously to get success.
Time is very less for vast syllabus of Mains exam with its 2 Optional subjects and moreover time is less
in betwwen of declaration of Prelims results and Mains Exam date.
So prepare in advance for CSE and 1yrs time is more than enough to prepare throughly.
You should clear your basic concepts by reading NCERT Books from school level.
CSE checks the intellegence and indepth knowledge of the candidates,so prepare accordingly.

If you are normal, preparing for years will strain your brain so make it to months. Studying sincerely for three months is enough to clear any competitive exam provided that you have good study materials. If you can manage to concentrate on your preparation for at least three months you have a greater chance of clearing IPS exam.All you need to do is collect reliable study materials which are up to date and factual. Internet is also a good option for collecting study materials.all the best.

The number of days, months or years required for preparation depends completely upon you. It is you who can judge how long it takes for you to complete a topic and your grasping speed.

Preparation can be done within 3 months also & cannot be done in 10 years too.

I can only suggest you to use reference books , previous years' papers and memory techniques while you prepare.
