    Kindly share the information about Civil Services Exam. When is it conducted? What are the age limits? Suggest a way to start preparation for Civil Services Exam.

    I would like to get details on Civil Service Profession . At present I'm 26 and looking for career in Civil service. I'm a MBA graduate and have an experience working in training field. Could you pls get the information on civil service exams as in when it is conducted and what is the age limit.

    Also Pls guide the way in which i should start my preparation for Exams.

    The essential qualification to become IAS candidate should be graduate.Selection processors is:

    Age Limitation: Candidate should be between 21-30 years

    Age relaxation for:

    SC/ST 5 years
    OBC 3 years
    State of Jammu and Kashmir 5 years
    Defense Services Personnel 5 years
    Ex-Servicemen 5 years

    Educational Qualification: Candidate must be Graduate from any recognized universitity

    Hey there..


    The qualification required to apply for the exam is that one MUST be a graduate(3 yrs/4yrs) from a recognized university under the UGC act.


    Age limit:
    A candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 30 years on 1st August, in the year of examination.


    The upper age limit prescribed above will be relaxable in the follwing cases:
    SC/ST : upto a maximum of five years.
    BC : upto a maximum of three years.
    State of Jammu & Kashmir: upto a maximum of five years.
    Defence Services personnel : upto a maximum of five years


    Number of attempts:
    General : four attempts.
    SC/ST: No restriction.
    BC: seven

    UPSC conducts the exam every year during May-June, and the notification for the same appears around Jan-Feb. Once you pass the Prelims you will be eligible for the main exam which happens around Oct-Sept.

    You can start your preparation by joining a good institute and following the current events regularly. Read newpaper everyday.

    A minimum of 3-4 hours of study every day will get you through the exam.

    The criteria for appearing in Civil Services Exam is :
    1. Nationality : Indian
    2. Academic qualification : Graduate in any stream from any recognized university.
    3. Age limits : 21-30 (OPEN), 21-33 (OBC), 21-35(sc/st).

    The exact time for civil services preparation depends on a person's ability to comprehend and grasp concepts. You will have to judge yourself & see how long will you take to complete your preparation.

    You can prepare for CSE in the following ways:
    1. The reference books for various subjects can be found on net.
    2. Prepare your own Comprehensive notes.
    3. Use memory techniques. Memory techniques is a smart way of learning.

    • Civil services examination is one of the highly competitive examination conducted by Upsc.
    • For that, you must have to be possess the bachelor degree in any stream from an recognised university.
    • Regarding the age limit, it should be between 21 years to 30 years.
    • Since you have completed MBA and you are at the age of 26 years, you are eligible to appear in this examination.
    • This examination has three stages, preliminary exam, main exam and interview.
    • The examination is conducted once every year.

    Eligibility criteria for CIvils

    1) Nationality: The candidate must be an Indian citizen.

    2)Age : The upsc civil exam appear candidates age between 21 to 30 years .Age relaxation for SC ,ST ,OBC ,handicapped persons details given below.

    (i)5 years age relaxable for SC,ST candidates

    (ii)3 years age relaxable for OBC candidates

    (iii)5 years age relaxable for defence service personnel

    (iv)5 years age relaxable for ECOs /SSCOs who have rendered at least 5 years assignment in the military service.

    (v)5 years age relaxable in the case of ECOs/SSCOs who have completed an initial period of 5 years in military service.

    (vi)10 years age relaxable for blind ,deaf .mute and orthopedically ,handicapped persons.

    3) Educational Qualification: The upsc civils examination appearing candidates must be a graduation completed from the recognized university.

    (4)Number of Attempts: The appear candidates of civils how many times may attempt details has given below.

    General candidates: 4 attempts.

    Sc, St Candidates: No restriction.

    Other Backward Classes: 7 attempts

    (5)Restriction: The candidate who is appointed to the civils posts results of an earlier examination and continues to be a member of that service will not be eligible to compete at this exam.

    (6)Physical Standards: The candidate�s physically fit as per civil services medical norms.
