    dear friend,

UPSC changed the Pattern of UPSC Civil Services Prelims Exam. Now it is also called CSAT(Civil Services Aptitude Test). There is no optional subjects in CSAT exam. In this two papers are conducted which comes from General Studies and Logical and reasoning questions. Both papers are of objective type.
UPSC Civil Services Mains Exam still same. You have to choose optional subjects for UPSC mains exam. you can opt any two optional subjects from the list of optional subjects.

    Good Luck.....

In the new pattern there is no optionals for prelims. paper1 is general studies which includes questions from Indian History, Geography, Constitution of india, Economy, science and current events of national and international importance. Paper 2 is CSAT in which reasoning skills, English language skills and Quantitative ability is checked.
I mains you can choose 2 optionals. since you studied related to medicine you can choose subjects ike medical science, psychology, zoology etc.
