It is very difficult to predit what will happen with the exam pattern of UPSC Civil Services in next 5-7 years
If you have already completed Graduation or about to complete Graduation you have to prepare for the exams with the existing exam pattern only
Also there is just one optional subject in the mains exams and it has two apers.
Also be advised there are 5 other papers in the mains exams, so final sel;ection depends on the performance of all the 7 papers of the mains exams
Hi aspirant
You should choose the subject of your own stream.....& ....according to your strength.
In my opinion Public Administration is better as it gives the idea how to work done by IAS.
Presently there are following subjects provided by UPSC board as optional to choose anyone of them for two papers in main examination that contains 500 marks
>> Agriculture
>> Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science
>> Anthropology
>> Botany
>> Chemistry
>> Civil Engineering
>> Commerce and Accountancy
>> Economics
>> Electrical Engineering
>> Geography
>> Geology
>> History
>> Law
>> Management
>> Mathematics
>> Mechanical Engineering
>> Medical Science
>> Philosophy
>> Physics
>> Political Science & International Relations
>> Psychology
>> Public Administration
>> Sociology
>> Statistics
>> Zoology
We are really sorry to say that we do not have any information about to adding any extra or other subjects as optional in main examination because rules are formed by UPSC board and if UPSC board has decided these subjects as optional then each aspirant will have to select anyone of them and if you think that you choose Criminology as optional subject then you can not because until UPSC board approve this subject or any other subject to add in the list of optional subjects so you should understand the present situation and choose any other subject except criminology and we do not know about future because many things may be changed after 5-7 years in this exam and may be that there is no change done in examination by board after 5 years also so you should think about present to make your future better
All the best
